If waterproofing measures are inadequate, it not only compromises the normal operation of the wiring but may also trigger safety hazards such as electrical leakage or short circuits. So, how should wire joints be properly waterproofed when they are subject to prolonged immersion?

**Select Appropriate Waterproof Tape:** Waterproof tape is a commonly used material for waterproofing wire joints. For instance, self-adhesive rubber waterproof tape offers excellent flexibility and sealing properties, allowing it to adhere tightly to the wire joint and effectively prevent moisture intrusion. During application, first clean the wire joint to remove any surface dust or grease; then, starting from one end, wrap the tape in a half-overlapping pattern, ensuring that each layer is tightly bound to the next. Waterproof junction boxes are typically constructed from high-strength plastic or metal and feature excellent sealing capabilities. By housing the wire joint inside the box and utilizing sealing gaskets and fastening mechanisms, water intrusion can be effectively prevented. For example, in certain aquaculture facilities, the wire joints for underwater equipment are frequently protected using waterproof junction boxes. During installation, it is essential to ensure that the junction box is securely mounted and that the sealing gaskets are undamaged to achieve optimal waterproofing results.

**Apply Waterproof Potting Compound:** Using a waterproof potting compound is a more specialized method of waterproofing. By pouring a specialized waterproof resin around the wire joint, a sealed, waterproof layer is formed once the compound has cured. This method is suitable for applications with stringent waterproofing requirements, such as the treatment of underwater cable joints. During the process, the joint must first be placed inside a suitable mold; the waterproof compound is then slowly poured in to ensure it thoroughly fills all voids surrounding the joint. The curing time varies depending on the specific type of compound used, typically ranging from several hours to a full day. In a specific underwater lighting project, wire connections were treated using waterproof potting compound; following a prolonged period of underwater testing, no waterproofing issues of any kind were observed.
