The function of a low-voltage circuit breaker

A low-voltage circuit breaker is a type of switchgear that integrates control and protection functions. It is mainly used in power distribution systems with an AC voltage of 1000V or a DC voltage of 1500V or below. It can both manually or electrically connect and disconnect circuits, and can also automatically cut off the power supply when a fault occurs in the circuit to ensure electrical safety. 

Core protection functions

1. Overload protection: When the line current exceeds the rated value and persists for a certain period of time, the circuit breaker will automatically open to prevent equipment from being burned out due to long-term overheating.

2. Short-circuit protection: When a short circuit occurs in the circuit and a huge current is generated, the circuit breaker will trip rapidly within a few milliseconds to suppress the expansion of the fault and prevent fires.

3. Undervoltage/loss-of-voltage protection: Some models have this function. When the voltage is too low or the power is cut off, it will automatically cut off the circuit to prevent the equipment from accidentally starting when the voltage is restored.

Control and isolation functions

Circuit control: It can be used as a switch to frequently connect and disconnect the load circuit, or to frequently start electric motors.

Power isolation: When in the open position, it can provide an effective isolation gap to ensure that maintenance personnel are completely isolated from the power supply, ensuring maintenance safety.

Reusability: Unlike fuses, after troubleshooting, there is no need to replace the components, and the circuit can be restored by re-energizing, which is convenient to operate and has a lower cost.

Low-voltage circuit breakers are widely used in various feeder lines of low-voltage power distribution systems, the power supply control of mechanical equipment, and the protection of electrical terminals. They are important safety-guarding devices in the electrical system.
